The Project: A Sustainable Partnership

Starting in January 2025, we will partner with an independent school in Melbourne to implement a sustainable approach to student transport. Traditionally, parents drove their children to and from school, contributing to high emissions and traffic congestion at drop-off and pick-up. Our team will work with the school to introduce a bus service, replacing many individual car journeys with five 16-seater minibuses.

This transition aims to reduce the environmental impact of daily school commutes and will highlight the benefits of green transportation solutions.

The Solution: Implementing School Bus Services

In January 2025, StudentSafe AU will launch five daily bus routes to efficiently transport students to and from school. By carefully coordinating these routes, we aim to ensure a smooth, stress-free journey for students each day. This project will demonstrate the measurable benefits of sustainable transport, from reducing emissions to cutting costs, improving students’ overall safety, and even expanding the schools’ catchment areas.

The Environmental Impact: Projected CO₂ Reduction

To emphasise the project’s success, we will conduct a thorough analysis comparing CO₂ emissions from previous car-based commutes with those from the new school bus system. Using data from the Australian Government’s National Greenhouse Accounts, we plan to calculate emissions as follows:

  • Standard Petrol Car: 180 grams of CO₂ per kilometre
  • Standard 16-Seater Minibus: 300 grams of CO₂ per kilometre

Daily Emissions Comparison (Projected)

Before adopting the school bus system, the total daily distance covered by individual cars was around 464 km. The new bus routes will reduce this distance to 132 km daily. Here’s the expected emissions comparison:
